Unpacking the Overload of Writing Tips: Approaching writing advice without feeling overwhelmed

Let me start by reinforcing that writing advice never grows old. There’s always something to learn. I have written about advice often enough that even I reached a point where I wondered if readers might want to keep scrolling through the lines.

There are always lessons and new tips to take away, regardless of how skilled you think you are at the craft. Let the writing experience grow, evolve, and shape new perspectives.

When you believe you’re at a comfortable place to start earning income from your writing, you must have a strategy. That means you level up and try to figure out what you can do to monetize your words.

I’ve written about writing platforms I’ve tried and the ones I continue to use. I’ve written about a site that continues to pay me (I publish twice a day to maintain consistency). And when I’m ready to try something different, wanting more success doesn’t mean I’m greedy.

The book I published last year is still selling. I worked on that true story for 13 years, so that makes me happy. I know every good thing takes time. Whisper that to yourself until you believe it.

Be passionate about your writing, and be patient. Have a stack of journals and a working laptop. Any material you want to keep, store it on a thumb drive, website, or blog. Whatever you do, store your work somewhere.

Define your goals and strategize, and as you evolve as a writer, keep updating your goals and strategies.

Don’t roll your eyes when you see another article about making sure you have a good title. Lean in and listen because there might be some significant advice you haven’t learned before.

If you struggle with grammar, get help from a grammar tool.

If you struggle with structure, create an outline for your story.

Whatever it is you struggle with, I guarantee there will be advice out there to help guide you.

Writing is a craft that will always need honing. Even the best writers are aware there’s always something to learn. Don’t ever think you know everything there is to know about writing because you don’t.

Every piece of advice can unlock something new in your approach to writing. Think about it. Every writer or journalist has relied on advice from others at one point or another.

Whether it’s advice about how to tell a story, trying to figure out how to engage your audience, or refining your grammar, lean in and listen.

The more information you take in, the more you expand on what good writing looks like.

The next time you come across more writing advice you think about ignoring, read it out of curiosity instead of thinking, “Good grief, more writing advice?”

If you want to keep growing and evolving as a wwriter, any advice can offer something beneficial or essential. I can’t say it enough because seasoned writers or authors can bring something to the table that you need.

They can offer you invaluable advice to lift your writing experience. And accept feedback because that can help you identify your strengths and your weaknesses.

Seek out advice. You might find some techniques to help you tell your story better. Look at every piece of advice as another opportunity to grow.

Writing is a competitive field, so having the willingness to learn or adapt is key. Your writing future will thank you later for leaning in and listening.

As always, thanks for reading.
